Luxury brand identity design

For luxury businesses that deserve to be recognised at a glance, with a brand mark, typography and visual system that hold their standard everywhere.

BRAND IDENTITY

Your clients decide what your business is worth before they read a word. They decide it from the weight of a card in their hand, the composure of a mark, the quiet of a website. BCLR designs luxury brand identities for founders whose work already meets that standard, and whose brand now needs to say so.

What is luxury brand identity design?

Luxury brand identity design is the creation of everything a brand is recognised by: its logo suite, letterforms, colour, materials, imagery and voice, and the rules that keep them consistent. It is sometimes called a luxury visual identity, though a well-made identity is felt as much as it is seen.

For you, it is the difference between explaining your standard and having it understood at a glance. When the identity is right, clients arrive already expecting the quality you deliver. Proposals are read more carefully. Fees are questioned less. The brand begins to do the work you have been doing yourself.

BCLR is a luxury branding studio serving London and the UK. Every BCLR project is led by our founders and Creative Directors, Beth Clawson and Leon Reeve, who are present at every private consultation. A focused identity typically takes four to eight weeks, and a fuller programme with brand strategy and rollout three to five months.

Refresh or rebrand

Brand refresh or rebrand: what is the difference?

Brand refresh

A refresh keeps the recognition you have earned and refines how it is expressed. Your mark is redrawn rather than replaced, and the typography, palette and applications are brought up to the standard of the business you are today. It is right when clients already know and value your brand, but its execution has fallen behind the quality of your work.

Rebrand

A rebrand is a new identity, often with a new position and sometimes a new name. It begins with strategy, because the question is no longer how the brand looks but what it now stands for. It is right when the brand actively holds the business back, or when the business itself has changed beyond what the old brand can carry.

Read when a luxury business should rebrand

Choose wrongly, and you lose either the recognition you have earned or the opportunity you have outgrown. That is why every project begins with a private consultation.

The identity

Every element of your luxury brand identity

A luxury brand is recognised long before it is read. Each element is designed in conversation with the others, so the impression a client forms in one place is confirmed in every other.

Logo suite

Your mark will be seen at every size imaginable: blind-embossed on a card, at the head of a website, stitched, etched or foiled. We design a complete logo suite for those moments, with a primary logo, secondary lockups, a monogram and the small marks for screens and social profiles, each drawn so it never looks smaller than your business.

Bespoke wordmark and custom lettering

When a typeface anyone can buy will not do, we draw your letterforms ourselves. A bespoke wordmark gives your name proportions and details that belong to you alone. For Luxe Flowers, the letters were drawn to echo petals and stems, so the name carries the craft of the house before a single flower is seen.

Typography

Long before anyone reads your words, they read how your words are set. We choose and pair the typefaces that become your voice on paper and on screen, and set the spacing and hierarchy that keep every proposal, menu and page sounding like the same considered business.

Colour palette

Luxury colour is rarely loud. It is precise, held back and consistent wherever it appears. We build your palette with exact values for print and screen, then test each colour on the papers, fabrics and screens it will live on, because a colour that works on a monitor can fail on the stock your clients actually hold.

Pattern and graphic devices

The most recognised brands can be known without their name: by a pattern on tissue, a border on a box, a detail on a ribbon. We design the patterns and graphic devices that give your brand that quiet recognition, drawn from the same logic as your mark so they deepen the identity rather than decorate it.

Art direction and photography

Your imagery will say more about your standard than any sentence you write. We define how your brand is photographed, the light, the colour, the compositions it favours and the subjects it never shows, so every photographer and stylist you commission produces work that is unmistakably yours.

Tone of voice and naming

A brand is heard as well as seen. Where you need it, we shape how your business speaks, the words it chooses and the ones it leaves out, along with the names of the products and services you introduce. The result is a voice as composed as the identity around it.

Brand assets

An identity proves itself in daily use. We create the assets your team will reach for every day, from proposal and presentation templates to social templates, email signatures and a library of approved imagery, so whoever produces the next document produces it to your standard rather than their own.

Stationery

Stationery is often the first part of your brand a client holds, and they will judge it with their fingertips. We design your cards, letterheads and correspondence with paper, weight and finish chosen alongside the design, from foil and embossing to painted edges, and can see production through via the Print Concierge.

Luxury brand guidelines

Your identity will outlive any single project, and your guidelines are how it survives. We write and design them so a printer, a new hire or another agency can apply your brand exactly as intended, with clear examples of what belongs and what does not, set as a beautiful document and, where useful, a living online version.

The process

How we create your identity together

I

Private consultation

An unhurried conversation about your business, where it is going and what your brand must carry. It is as much for you to judge us as for us to understand you. If we are right for each other, you receive a written proposal with scope, investment and timeline.

II

Discovery

We immerse ourselves in your business, your clients and the standard you hold yourself to, and agree with you, in writing, what the identity must say before a single line is drawn.

III

Creative direction

You are shown a small number of considered directions, each with its reasoning, never a wall of options. We would rather defend one right answer than offer ten safe ones.

IV

Refinement

Together we resolve the chosen direction in every detail, from the spacing of a single letter to how your colours behave on real paper.

V

Delivery

Your identity arrives complete, with its guidelines, assets and first pieces ready to use. If you wish, we stay on as its guardian.

Where to begin

Where is your business today?

Every business arrives at a different moment. Find yours, and the right place to begin. Not sure which describes you? That is what the private consultation is for.

New ventures and start-ups

You are launching into a luxury market with no track record to lean on, and the brand must be believed from its first day. The positioning decided now shapes everything that follows.

Begin with brand strategy and a new identity

Established, heritage and family-run businesses

Your clients value what you have built and your name carries weight, yet the brand no longer reflects the quality of the business today. The equity is real; the expression has fallen behind.

Begin with a brand refresh

Dated brands and businesses in transition

The brand belongs to another era, or the business is changing shape: acquiring, merging or bringing several companies together under one name. The old brand can no longer carry what the business has become.
